Court-Related Community Service Volunteers

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina welcomes select volunteers needing to complete court-related community service at all 5 of our branches. Individuals who need to complete community service hours for any court-related charge fall into this category; this includes but is not limited to any lawyer recommended service, court-appointed service as well as individuals needing to complete hours in light of a pending charge. If you are unsure if you fall into this category, please confirm with a branch staff person.

If you are in need of community service hours for school or business, you do not need to attend orientation. When you arrive to volunteer, please just let a branch staff person know that you will need documentation of your hours. For more information on general volunteering, please go to the branch page:

Durham | Greenville | Raleigh | Sandhills | Wilmington

Please note that we only accept certain types of non-violent offenders:

- Misdemeanor drug charges (marijuana only)
- Misdemeanor larceny
- Traffic violations
- Driving while impaired
- Non-violent misdemeanors

All non-violent court-related community service volunteers choosing to complete their hours at the Food Bank must attend a mandatory orientation before any community service hours can be fulfilled. During the orientation, staff will review the Food Bank's volunteer work schedules, regulations, and dress code. Volunteers must bring all necessary court documentation concerning your community service assignment.

In Durham, we are not currently operating a community service program. We expect to accept community service volunteers again late this fall. Please email Durham's Volunteer Coordinator or call 919.956.2513 ext. 2104 with additional questions.

In Greenville, orientation is held every Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 until 3:30 pm and counts towards a volunteer's community service hours. Volunteers do not need to sign up in advance but must be on time. Please email Greenville's Volunteer Coordinator or call 252.752.4996 ext. 2302 with additional questions.

The Raleigh branch is holding orientation on the second and forth Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm (please be on time). The orientation will last for 30 minutes and you will receive credit as usual and be allowed to begin volunteering that evening if desired from 6-8pm. Please check back for additional orientation dates in late March.
